At the end of the successful Chartered Teacher Conference on 7th June, interested Chartered Teachers and Chartered Teacher candidates met together to discuss progress towards the formation of the Association of Chartered Teachers Scotland (ACTS). Around 50 people stayed on after a busy day to hear an update from Dorothy Coe, Annie McSeveney and Paddy Miller of the ACTS steering group, and to engage in discussion.
The three steering group members explained that the group had developed the priorities produced in discussion at the initial January meeting to draw up a draft list of aims. These are to:
Support the community of Chartered Teachers in all its forms
Encourage communication and collaboration between Chartered Teachers
Encourage the provision of appropriate level CPD opportunities for Chartered Teachers
Develop awareness of the professional identity of Chartered Teachers

On 12th January 2008, a meeting was held at the GTCS in Edinburgh to establish an Association of Chartered Teachers. Those present discussed what ethos such a group might wish to develop and agreed a number of activities with which such a group might engage. A small steering group was formed in order to take this forward to a stage where a committee could be elected.
The steering group will present a report on progress so far after the plenary session at the Chartered Teacher conference on Saturday 7th June 2008, in Edinburgh. This will be an opportunity for all Chartered Teachers to become more actively involved in the new Association.
From Sunday 1st June further information will be available to download from this site.
If you are attending the GTCS Chartered Teacher conference, please join us for the ACTS update at 3.30pm in the lecture theatre
